Gas Fireplaces
B-Vent top-vented gas fireplace uses the air inside your home putting the
heated air and fumes up the chimney pipe. The firebox is heated and heat is
radiated into the room. Some models are equipped with a blower which helps to
push the heat into your home. The B-Vent gas fireplace works very similar the
the furnace in your home.
Direct Vent Top or rear vented gas fire place. Highly efficient the direct vent
fireplace uses a double walled chimney pipe with an air space between the
pipes. Fresh air is drawn in from the outside and heat fumes go out through the
inner pipe. This pipe serves a double purpose, not only does it bring in fresh air
for combustion the cooler outside air cools the hotter inner pipe allowing for
closer clearances. Your heated air stays in your home and isn't drawn up the
chimney. Rear venting creates higher efficiency because the heat is kept in the
firebox longer before it travels to the outside. Blowers are also available on
direct vent fireplaces.
Vent-Free Gas fireplaces are 99.9% efficient. Clean burning of gas fumes is
created by "Super Heating" the burner's emberbed and forcing the gas over it
in a sense double burns the gas creating the clean burn. Most people can't
smell anything but the intense smell of heat. Not recommened for anyone with
any breathing problems.
Water is a by product of gas. When gas burns it leave moisture behind. This
extra moisture (around 1 gallon for every 2 hours burn time) is put into your
home. Sounds like a lot but a 10 minute shower leaves around 7 gallons of
moisture in the air. In the winter the air in your home is usually dry and the extra
moisture is more than welcome. One side affect could be excess moisture
fogging poorly insulated windows.
Gas Logs Decorative gas appliance that looks almost real. Lower effciency in
heat as heated air is drawn from your home and up the chimney. It might warm
up the room you are in but the rest of the house gets cooler. Must be installed
in a wood burning fireplace with a working chimney for proper ventilation.
Cimney damper must be fully opened while in use.
Carbon Monoxide Detector Is strongly recommened for every home.
Unfortunately every heating season we hear of a death caused by carbon
monoxide. For your safety we recommend getting your furnace and gas
fireplace safety tested yearly.
